Kanto Lampo Waterfall Near Ubud: Hidden Gem In Gianyar, Bali

by David & Intan

Kanto Lampo Waterfall is a big cascade in the Gianyar area of Bali, just a short distance from Ubud.

This Ubud waterfall has already been discovered by the Instagram masses, but don’t let that keep you away! It’s super photogenic, and if you come at the right time you still might be able to avoid the crowds.

This travel guide will explain how to get there, and everything you need to know before you go!

Where To Stay

Kanto Lampo Waterfall

Kanto Lampo is a nice cascade waterfall that drops down some rocks into a shallow natural pool in the river.

The water is shallow enough for kids (when we went in August it was knee high), although if you go up the river a bit it gets deeper (chest high).

The word is out on Kanto Lampo and it gets pretty crowded with photo seekers, but it’s still not nearly as busy as Tegenungan Waterfall.

Just watch your step inside and outside of the water, because the rocks can be very slippery. There’s a local guy that takes great photos for a tip (10k is fine).

Supposedly Kanto Lampo gets its name from a rare exotic fruit in the area, but we didn’t see any on our visit.

If you explore the area some more, there’s bizarre rock carvings, a small bat cave, and a second viewpoint across the river where you can see the waterfall from above.

All in all, I’d rate it as one of Bali’s best waterfalls!

Best Time To Visit

This spot has become very popular for doing Instagram photos, etc, so you may have to wait in line for pictures.

If you want to avoid crowds, the best time to visit Kanto Lampo is in the morning (before 10 AM) or possibly in the late afternoon.

Entrance Fee

The entrance fee is 20k Rupiah (~$1) as of 2024. Parking is free.

How To Get There

Kanto Lampo Waterfall is located in Gianyar, just 20 minutes from Ubud. If you’re coming from Canggu or Kuta, the drive is about 1 hour.

The best way to get there is to rent a scooter or hire a private car and driver (both of these can be booked online).

When you arrive, it’s a steep (but easy) 5 minute walk down to the waterfall. Enjoy!

Is Kanto Lampo Open / Closed?

Kanto Lampo has re-opened for visitors since October 15, 2023! The waterfall was closed temporarily because of a landslide on September 15, but it’s now open again like normal.

Bali Private Driver & Motorbike Rental

If you want to explore Bali in the comfort and safety of a private car with an English speaking driver, my top recommendation would be GetYourGuide.

Their price is 650k Rupiah ($45 USD) for a full day of driving and sightseeing in Bali (up to 10 hours) for 1-5 passengers. That's the total price for the whole car + driver + petrol! It's a great deal. They also offer affordable hotel transfers from the airport.

If you'd rather travel by motorbike, they have that too. Their scooter rentals start at 140k Rupiah (~$9) and include a helmet, rain coat, and free delivery in the south Bali area.

We've used GetYourGuide for lots of tours and activities around the world, and they're great! Highly recommended.

Hi, yes unfortunately Kanto Lampo is closed temporarily because of a landslide. They told us it’s expected to be closed from September 15 to October 15.
