Goa Raja Waterfall In Bali: The King Cave Falls

The Goa Raja Waterfall is a recently discovered hidden gem in east Bali, just a short distance from the famous Tukad Cepung Waterfall.

This spot is pretty easy to reach from Ubud, and it has a big waterfall inside of a cave, just like the name implies (Goa Raja is Indonesian for ‘king cave’).

There’s even a small natural pool for swimming. All in all, we actually liked this waterfall better than Tukad Cepung, and of course there were way less tourists.

Goa Raja Waterfall – What To Expect

The hike to the waterfall is short and only takes about 15 minutes as you walk through a mossy green canyon.

The track starts out steep (downhill) for the first few minutes, and then levels out for the rest of the way.

Last time we did this hike, the path was damaged in a few places and some bamboo bridges were broken, but hopefully those will be fixed before long.

You have to cross a stream in one place and the rocks can be slippery, but the stream is pretty shallow even in rainy season.

At the end, you’re rewarded with a big cave, a waterfall, and a natural pool for swimming! There’s even a bamboo shack for changing clothes.

Entrance Fee

FREE as of 2021.

There was no parking fee or entrance fee when we visited, you’re only asked to give a donation.

That may change over time when the place gets popular, as Bali waterfalls tend to do!

When To Visit

The best time to visit this waterfall seems to be any month outside of the dry season, which runs from May to November-ish.

When we first did this hike in August, there was no waterfall and the locals said it had been diverted to irrigate the rice fields. We came back in February, and the waterfall was perfect!

How To Get There

Goa Raja Waterfall is located in the Bangli area of east Bali.

It’s about 45 minutes from Ubud or Sidemen, and you can easily combine it with Tukad Cepung Waterfall since the two spots are only a few minutes apart!

The best way to get there is to rent a scooter or hire a private car and driver (both of these can be booked online).
