Suwat Waterfall Bali – Hidden Natural Pool Near Ubud

by David & Intan

The Suwat Waterfall is a nice hidden gem in the Gianyar area of Bali, just a short distance from Ubud.

It’s a waterfall that hasn’t been discovered by the tourist hordes yet, with a natural pool that’s great for swimming and photos. There’s even a neat bamboo raft you can float around on.

This travel guide will explain how to get there, and everything you need to know before you go!

Where To Stay

Suwat Waterfall Bali – What To Expect

The path down to the waterfall is very easy and takes you through a small bamboo forest and other tropical foliage along the way.

At the bottom, you’ll see some cool rock carvings and a big natural pool with a 20 meter waterfall at the back. It has a bamboo raft made by the locals, and there’s even a cave to explore behind the falls.

At the moment, Suwat Waterfall (also known by its Indonesian name Air Terjun Suwat) is basically unknown to foreign tourists, and I wasn’t able to find it on any English blogs on the internet! We only saw a small handful of locals there when we went.

It’s a nice little waterfall and I think it will undoubtedly become popular and crowded before long, just like what happened with the Kanto Lampo and Tibumana waterfalls.

Entrance Fee

The entrance fee for Suwat Waterfall is 15k Rupiah (~$1 USD) as of 2020.

How To Get There

Suwat Waterfall is located in Gianyar, just 30 minutes from Ubud. If you’re coming from Canggu or Kuta, the drive is about 1 hour.

The best way to get there is to rent a scooter or hire a private car and driver (both of these can be booked online).

When you arrive, it’s just a 5 minute walk down to the waterfall. Enjoy!

Bali Private Driver & Motorbike Rental

If you want to explore Bali in the comfort and safety of a private car with an English speaking driver, my top recommendation would be GetYourGuide.

Their price is 650k Rupiah ($45 USD) for a full day of driving and sightseeing in Bali (up to 10 hours) for 1-5 passengers. That's the total price for the whole car + driver + petrol! It's a great deal. They also offer affordable hotel transfers from the airport.

If you'd rather travel by motorbike, they have that too. Their scooter rentals start at 140k Rupiah (~$9) and include a helmet, rain coat, and free delivery in the south Bali area.

We've used GetYourGuide for lots of tours and activities around the world, and they're great! Highly recommended.
