The Gullfoss falls, also known as the golden falls, are easy to visit from Reykjavik, and not to be missed.

Gullfoss Iceland: What To Expect
Gullfoss Falls is a big 2-step waterfall that has a bunch of different viewpoints above and next to the falls.
The name means βgolden fallsβ in the Icelandic language, and this huge waterfall is fed by the melting LΓ‘ngjΓΆkull glacier.
Gullfoss Iceland is only a 1.5 hour drive from Reykjavik, so thatβs partly why itβs one of the most famous falls in the country. From the parking area, itβs a short 10-15 minute walk down to the falls, so you donβt have to do any hiking.
Itβs probably not my favorite waterfall in Iceland, partly because of the crowds, but the fact that itβs easier to get to this one does make it more appealing.
Itβs definitely worth a visit if you have time!
Gullfoss In Winter
If youβre visiting in the winter, Gullfoss Iceland is still open and easy to visit. The roads are well kept.
Thereβs an upper and lower viewpoint that stays open in the winter, but the path to the lower viewpoint can be icy and slippery, so you might want crampons if you go down there.
The last viewpoint directly on top of Gullfoss Waterfall is closed during the winter, but you can still get some nice views from the earlier viewpoints.

How To Get To The Gullfoss Falls
Gullfoss Waterfall is located 120 kilometers (75 miles) from Reykjavik, Iceland, and the drive takes about 2 hours.
You can drive here with a rental car, or there are prepackaged day tours that include the waterfall as part of their itinerary.
