Sairee Beach Koh Tao: Main Beach In Koh Tao, Thailand

by David & Intan

Sairee Beach is the biggest and most popular beach on Koh Tao island in Thailand.

If you’re looking for white sand, lazy palm trees, and a great place to watch the sunset, this is the place to go.

This travel guide will explain how to get there, and everything you need to know before you go!

Best Tours In Koh Tao

What To Do At Sairee Beach

Sairee Beach is the main beach in Koh Tao, so naturally it’s lined with good restaurants, hotels, dive shops, and more.

This is a great beach to hang out and get some sun. It’s also popular for volleyball and swimming, although the snorkeling here is not as good as some other spots on the island.

One of the best picture spots is the unique bent palm tree on the beach. It’s great for photo ops. Sairee is also a good sunset beach, so you’ll want to stay here until dark.

Sairee Beach is where the boat taxis hang out, and it’s where most trips to Nang Yuan island start from. Don’t miss the famous twin islands viewpoint at Koh Nang Yuan!

How To Get There

Sairee Beach is located on the west side of Koh Tao island.

It’s just a short walk from Mae Haad Pier, the main pier on Koh Tao where all the ferry boats arrive. The map below shows the north end of Sairee.

You can walk to the beach from nearby, or many places will rent you a scooter for 150 Baht ($5 USD) to explore the island all day.

Our hotel in south Koh Tao even had a free daily shuttle service to Sairee Beach!

Where We Stayed

We stayed at a hotel called Aukotan Place in south Koh Tao. The price was $23 USD for a big double room with cold A/C, hot shower, and good WiFi.

This hotel includes free buffet breakfast even though it’s not mentioned on Booking.com. They also give a free daily transfer to and from the pier, and Sairee Beach, which was super handy, and they have scooter rentals for a good price.

The location of the hotel was perfect. It’s a 15 minute walk from Freedom Beach, Shark Bay, and John Suwan Viewpoint.

Prices may fluctuate from time to time, so just keep an eye out for a good deal.
